Care Spot Clean Only. For small stains, spot cleaning with a mild detergent and water can be effective. Gently work on the stain and rinse the area thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Ensure the cleaned area is fully dry before using or storing the pillow. We suggest giving your pillow a good shake and fluffing it up daily or each time you make your bed to ensure the down filling remains evenly distributed. The down is washed and cleaned with Allernon-21 Ultrafresh® technology (EPA registered & OEKO-TEX® listed) to help remove any allergens and keep the down smelling fresh and clean.
IDEAL FILL POWER Down fill power is a measure used to quantify the loft or fluffiness of down products, such as duvets, jackets, and sleeping bags, indicating the quality of the down. It measures the volume in cubic inches that one ounce of down fills up in a standardized testing environment. The higher the fill power number, the more air an ounce of down can trap, and therefore, the better it is at insulating. High fill power down provides more warmth for less weight, making it a desirable characteristic for lightweight and warm bedding or apparel. This measurement helps you compare the warmth-to-weight ratio of down products and make informed decisions based on their insulation needs and preferences.
We use a fill power of 650, which we consider to be ideal for a pillow. Firstly, it strikes a perfect balance between warmth and support, providing excellent insulation without being overly heavy or cumbersome. This level of fill power ensures the pillow is fluffy and comfortable, offering a cozy sleeping experience across a wide range of temperatures. It's suitable for year-round use in many climates, making it a versatile choice - the perfect combination of support, warmth, and value.
RDS BENEFITS Opting for down that is certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) supports ethical sourcing practices, ensuring the down is collected in ways that prioritize animal welfare and environmental sustainability. RDS certification signifies that the down products are sourced from facilities where animals are treated humanely and are not subjected to practices like live-plucking or force-feeding. By choosing RDS-certified down, you can contribute to the promotion of responsible industry standards and make a positive impact on animal welfare and sustainability efforts.
OEKO-TEX® The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, particularly when certified according to Annex 4, for a down duvet insert signifies that every component of the product, including the down, fabric, threads, and any other parts, has been tested for harmful substances and found to be safe for human health. Annex 4 certification is specifically stringent, indicating that the product meets the criteria for direct contact with the skin of babies and toddlers, which are the most sensitive user groups. This level of certification ensures that our duvet insert does not contain any harmful chemicals or substances at concentrations that could be detrimental to health, providing peace of mind to consumers looking for products that are safe, non-toxic, and suitable even for the most delicate skin, according to OEKO-TEX standards.
DOWNMARK® A Downmark-certified product signifies that it adheres to the stringent quality assurance requirements set forth by the Down Association of Canada. This certification is a guarantee that the manufacturer has met high standards in producing down or feather products, ensuring the item you purchase is made with genuine, high-quality materials. The DOWNMARK® label is a globally recognized symbol of quality, providing consumers with confidence that their down and feather products are authentic and finished according to rigorous standards, including ethical sourcing and manufacturing practices.
CLIMATE NEUTRAL As a Climate Neutral Certified company since 2019, we've measured Avocado's annual cradle-to-consumer emissions, offset them by investing in climate change solutions, and started taking real action to reduce our emissions. We also recognize our offsets and reductions aren't enough. Solving climate change will require systemic solutions. That's why, through our partnerships with Ceres and the American Sustainable Business Network, we also advocate for state and federal policies that support equitable solutions to the climate crisis.
FOR OUR VEGAN FRIENDS At Avocado, we are committed to ethical and sustainable practices across all our products, including those that are not vegan. We understand the importance of offering options that align with various lifestyle and ethical choices. Our decision to include responsible down in some of our products, such as our down duvet inserts and down pillows, is guided by a commitment to ethical sourcing and the welfare of animals. The down used in these products is certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), ensuring that it comes from ducks and geese treated humanely. This standard prohibits force-feeding and live-plucking, guaranteeing that the down is a by-product of the food industry and collected after the animals natural demise. While we recognize that these products may not align with a vegan lifestyle, we offer them as part of our commitment to cater to various preferences and values, ensuring that all our customers can access high-quality, ethically sourced bedding options. We proudly offer our vegan customers a range of vegan-certified and PETA-approved products that do not compromise our ethical standards or quality, including options made from sustainable materials like cotton, linen, hemp, and kapok. Our dedication to sustainability and ethical sourcing is central to our mission, ensuring we provide a conscientious choice for all our customers, regardless of their ethical or environmental preferences.

If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new bedding should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. But if you're like most of us, protect yourself by purchasing inexpensive extended warranties when you buy a new product and save yourself big money in the long run.
